A little confession

Ok … today I have to confess something. After many years of using office software I discovered that a supposedly common function totally went under my radar. Here’s the mystery: You can actually HIDE slides in StarOffice Impress and Powerpoint. Ummmm. So far slides were rather binary to me: On or off (deleted). So there’s another option: You can just skip them in your preso. Nice, I’ll try it out next time ;)
But never mind, I heard the most powerful pitches are held in the old-fashioned way at a flip chart anyway!
PS – I believe I finally made it – a really short blog post ;)

It happens!
So what package are you using these days? I have to confess that I now run Office 2008 on my Mac. I can’t remember the last time I launched OpenOffice. Does that make me a bad person?

Did you know you can also go to a slide by typing its number while in presentation mode? A trick I used to use was to make palm cards by printing the slides 8 to a page and numbering them. Then when someone in the audience asks a question about an earlier slide, you can jump right back to it. Much more professional than frantically hitting the back button, going past the slide, re-displaying animations, etc…
Of course most of the presentations I do these days are over the phone and so I get very little opportunity to show off.
Mike – of course Susanne would be using Open Office!

To answer Mike’s question: Yes, I still mostly use Openoffice.org. Currently a lot of Calc for number crunching purposes for my studies. Works very well with imported XLS files b.t.w. I am however maintaining my freelancer profile in MS Word, as many companies request .doc(x), so we have one MS Office license on our home PC. Well I guess as ex-Sunnies we’re ‘officially’ allowed to use the MS Office products now ;)
Kate – good tip with the slide #, will keep that in mind.
